The Scouting year 2026-2027 has a new registration timing.   Instead of registering for the calendar year, members will register for the Scouting year (i.e. it’s the same as the school year).   

New members to Scouting  will register and become members from September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2027.   Current members are registered until December 31, 2026 and can renew their membership for the period January 1, 2027 to August 31, 2027 at a reduced rate (in certain periods).

On the last Saturday of March Break over 80 pretending to be sun drenched members of the 24th Kitchener Scouting Family jumped in / waded in / splashed in to the Lyle Hallman Pool  and slide down the slides.   It as a great way to end March Break

Hey 24^th Kitchener Scouting Family:

          The Scouting year goes from September 1 to August 31; youth start there new Sections at the start of the Scouting year.   The Registration year, to which the paying of membership fees is related, goes from January 1 to December 31.   There is an early registration.   Here is the notice from Scouts Canada about early registration.

Things to observe are:

• The 2026 Scouts Canada registration fee is going up $7 to $277
• Early 2026 registration for returning members opens August 5^th. Register early to reserve your spot.
• 2026 Registration for new members opens September 8.
• If a youth registers for the 2025 (this year) Registration year between June 1 and July 15, the family will be contacted and offered an extension of membership to December 31, 2026 (yes, that’s an extra year, and the fee is the lower 2025 amount, $270).
• If a family is accepting that offer they have to do so by August 5th
• MyScouts.ca registration will be blacked out from July 16 to August 4.  During this time I will do the transfer, in MyScouts.ca, of youth going to a new Sections.

Note that new families who do not do the returning registration before September 4 will have to wait until September 8th when registration is open to new members

On June 8^th, Scouting youth, siblings, parent, grandparents, and Scouters gathered: to celebrate and award; to play games, old and new, e.g. croquet and three legged rages to big bubbles and axe throwing; and to have a potluck picnic.   There was a refresher of showers late in the day but the multitude of pop ups let us continue enjoying.

As we wind up the weekly meeting for the Summer it is time to start thinking about the August 1st opening of early registration for the Scouting 2025 Registration Year.   Between August 1st and August 15th is an important time to reserve your youth’s slot in the Section for 2025.

Our goal this year is to collect more than 1 ton – in one night!

We’ve done it before, and we’re determined to do it again.

But we need your help.

Door to Door collection will be on.

Monday, April 3rd
between 6pm and 9pm.

All donations will be delivered directly to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region for distribution to our neighbours in need.

We are unable to knock on each door at the time of pick-up so please leave your donation outside, nnear your front door clearly marked with a “24”. The map below shows the area we be collecting from.

If you live outside the area shown on the map, but would like to help us Gain Weight, we would be happy to accept your donations of nonperishable food bank items at St. James’-Rosemount United Church at the following times…

• Sunday, April 2nd – 10am – 12noon
• Monday, April 3rd between 6pm and 9pm.
