Posted by on Apr.07, 2019, under Beavers, Cubs, Group, Scouts, Venturers

Help us Gain Weight!

Our goal this year is to collect more than 1 ton – in one night!

We’ve done it before, and we’re determined to do it again.

But we need your help.

Door to Door collection will be on

Monday, April 15th
between 6pm and 9pm.

All donations will be delivered directly to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region for distribution to our neighbours in need.

The map below shows the area we will cover shaded in blue.

If you live outside the area shown on the map, but would like to help us Gain Weight, we would be happy to accept your donations of nonperishable food bank items at St. James’-Rosemount United Church at the following times…

  • Sunday, April 14th – 10am – 12noon
  • Monday, April 15th between 6pm and 9pm.

Changes to Scouts Canada’s procedure for “Refunds” and “No One Left Behind (NOLB)” support

Posted by on May.04, 2018, under Beavers, Cubs, Group, Scouts

Previously if you wanted a registration fee refund or support through the No One Left Behind (NOLB) program, you  were to e-mail either
nolb@scouts.ca or
refunds@scouts.ca .
These requests with all the other requests that come in to the Online Service Centre (OSC) have to be triaged, (separated by type and region of Canada) so as to get the requests to the right person in the right place.  The automation in the new procedure will:

  • free up people who triage,
  • speed response time, and
  • capture more information up front.

With the new procedure, if you e-mail either of those addresses you will get a response something like

Hello

Thank you for your email.

As we have moved to a new process to help streamline subsidy requests, this email address is no longer being monitored.

To begin your subsidy application, please use the online submission form here: https://help.scouts.ca/hc/en-ca/requests/new

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation.

It starts with Scouts!

Thanks

The Computer That’s A Scouter

The new procedure is:

  • go to https://help.scouts.ca/hc/en-ca/requests/new , or
  • go to http://MyScouts.ca select the “Support” link in the small banner at the very top of the page which will take you to http://help.scouts.ca and then select the “Submit a Request” link in the upper right hand part of the page, or
  • go directly to https://help.scouts.ca and then select the “Submit a Request” link in the upper right hand part of the page, or
  • go to http://24th.ca and select the “Submit a Scouts Canada Request … “ link at the bottom of the page. It will take you directly to the “Submit a Request” form.

Once you get to the new request submission form you can enter:

  • your e-mail address if you are not logged in
  • a short subject title, e.g “Request for Joey Doe”
  • a description e.g. “I would like to get a refund of Joey’s fee for registration with the 24th Kitchener
  • a support type that has a dropdown list that includes:
    • Refund Requests, and
    • Subsidies (No One Left Behind)
  • a region specification that has a dropdown list, select: “Ontario – Central”

then press “submit”

A Thought About Being of Service

Posted by on Apr.24, 2018, under Beavers, Cubs, Group, Scouts

Service is a Road to Happiness

“The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: ‘If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?’ But…the good Samaritan reversed the question: ‘If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?”
― Martin Luther King Jr.

“And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.”
― John F. Kennedy

“Those who are not looking for happiness are the most likely to find it, because those who are searching forget that the surest way to be happy is to seek happiness for others.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

And here are some thoughts from a person born before these leaders.

“Happiness is not mere pleasure not the outcome of wealth. It is the result of active work rather than passive enjoyment of pleasure.”
― Robert Baden-Powell

“The most worth-while thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others.”
― Robert Baden-Powell

“The main question of life is not ‘what can I get?’ but ‘what can I give?’.”
― Robert Baden-Powell

These are greater men than I, so I try to learn from them.   I think by putting these thoughts together that one thing I could learn is that serving others opens the opportunity to find one’s own happiness.  Also, consider this:

“But the best form of instruction of all, for a Scoutmaster to give, is by the force of example. It is essential if he is going to succeed in putting the right character into his boys that he should himself practise what he preaches. Boys are imitative, and what the Scoutmaster gives off, that they pick up and reflect.”
― Robert Baden-Powell

Perhaps we should recognise that by being in service to Scouting, we are passing that on and showing by force of example a path to the youth’s own happiness.
