Our Area does Food Bank’s DIG IN Event
by Scouter David on May.20, 2010, under Beavers, Cubs, Group, Scouts, Venturers
Here is an update on the North Waterloo Area’s participation in the Food Bank’s Dig In Event for Abert Fuchigami who coordinated Scouting’s participation locally. Yes, it was another great service event
Hi Everyone,
Just a quick follow-up report. North Waterloo Scouting collected about 400lbs of food. Thanks to all who articipated in the food collection part: (24th Kitchener, 38th Kitchener, 45th Kitchener, University of Waterloo, Other individuals)
Leaders from the University of Waterloo Group transferred the food to the DIG IN Drop off point Saturday morning. (We went to the Valu-Mart at Frederick and Edna. Since it was a low-volume store, they were very appreciative of the contribution). The DIG IN event as a whole collected 70,000 lbs of donations on the Saturday, and another 70,000 lbs in the days leading up to the event. There’s an article in the KW Record if you’re interested in more
details (http://news.therecord.com/article/712916)
Congratulations to 45th Kitchener, who won the Gift Certificate draw
From all reports, the Food Bank is planning on repeating this event next year.
Let me know if there are any questions.
Thanks
Albert Fuchigami
NWA Coordinator

Disney Clean Up Challenge
by admin on Apr.14, 2010, under Beavers, Cubs, Group, Scouts, Venturers
On Earth Day this year, April 22, 2010, 24th Kitchener Scouts will be participating in a local clean-up project launched by Disney and Scouts Canada. We will be sending youth and their parents out to different trail sections of the Grand River to clean up the garbage along that section of the trail. Our group will have a chance to win free tickets to the new Disney movie OCEANS opening April 22.
We understand tight schedules so we will be offering supper at the church before you head out to ‘Clean Up’. Supper will be served as you arrive on Thursday afternoon between at 4:30 and 6:00.
After you have eaten you will be sent out, along with another family or 2, to an entry point of the Grand River Trail. You will be supplied with garbage bags and gloves and you will walk for about half an hour picking up garbage along the way and then head back to your starting point and back to the church. We will dispose of the garbage from there.
Please bring a camera along if you can as we will need to send in pictures as part of our contest entry. After your clean up return to the church and see Scouter Jim. He will be prepare to download your pics before you leave.
This is a FULL UNIFORM event.
Please let us know if you will be participating.
Sign Up Here! Sign up is closed. We may not have enough food for many extras but you can still come and help clean up.
