Roger Farnham has been selected to receive one of Scouting’s most prestigious awards, the Silver Acorn. This is an award “for especially distinguished service to Scouting“.  We are all very proud of Roger and we congratulate him on this wonderful recognition.

The North Waterloo Area Awards Evening, on May 26^th, 2011, will see our Area recognize Roger’s milestone.  The details for the evening are listed on the  NWA site.

This is a great opportunity for the 24^th Kitchener Scouting family to come out and support Roger.  Bring yourself, some dishes, a chair or blanket and your hunger for the BBQ, then join other Scouters and Scouts in this evening of fellowship, pride and kinship with Roger.

Here is an update on the North Waterloo Area’s participation in the Food Bank’s Dig In Event for Abert Fuchigami who coordinated Scouting’s participation locally.  Yes, it was another great service event

Just a quick follow-up report.  North Waterloo Scouting collected about 400lbs of food.  Thanks to all who articipated in the food collection part: (24th Kitchener, 38th Kitchener, 45th Kitchener, University of Waterloo, Other individuals)

Leaders from the University of Waterloo Group transferred the food to the DIG IN Drop off point Saturday morning.  (We went to the Valu-Mart at Frederick and Edna.  Since it was a low-volume store, they were very appreciative of the contribution).   The DIG IN event as a whole collected 70,000 lbs of donations on the Saturday, and another 70,000 lbs in the days leading up to the event.  There’s an article in the KW Record if you’re interested in more

Congratulations to 45th Kitchener, who won the Gift Certificate draw

 From all reports, the Food Bank is planning on repeating this event next year.

Food Bank Dig In Event

There will be a meeting to review a business plan to move Kitchener Scout House from being a cost centre, i.e. it only generates costs to being a profit centre, i.e. enough revenue is generated to cover costs and build a small capital fund.
